An isometric exercise is one which involves using force against a resistant object. Think along the lines of holding a weight in a semi-contracted and motionless state for a period of time, or bending your arm and pressing again a wall or tree. Your muscles are excerting force but the object they are working on is not physically moving. This is ISOMETRICS!
